Erik
Comas announced the establishment of 'Comas Historic Racing' in Switzerland
with the official support of Renault's (Nissan alliance partner) collection
and historic division. Although Erik will soon re-enter the hard fought
All-Japan GT Championships next month, he will continue to positively
promote historic car events to preserve the great history of motorsport.
Erik Comas:
"It was when I first entered the Historic Monte Carlo Rally in 2001 that
I felt I wanted to share with friends the fun of an event which brought
back so many wonderful memories. The thing is however, that many people
who are interested in such events can not actually participate in them.
This has less to do with funding difficulties and more to do with a basic
lack of time needed to devote to such historic cars, which require special
maintenance techniques. So I searched the world for cars with historic
significance and carried out the necessary maintenance on them to allow
any car fan to participate easily in these wonderful events. And that
day has finally arrived.
As
I have already reported, several colleagues and I under the banner of
'Comas Historic Racing' participated in the 5th Historic Monte Carlo Rally
(Jan 25-31) driving four Renault Alpine 1600S's, classics in French motorsports
history. I have also put together a service assistant team who specially
selected two uniquely styled 1968 model Renault 16TS five-door saloons
as well as a 1975 model Le Saviem SG2, a French brand which no longer
exists. During this race, 'Comas Historic Racing' and its focus
on classic French sportscars secured big headlines in the French media
as such events gain considerable popularity throughout Europe. "
'Comas
Historic Racing' will provide full service backup for people who are willing
to enter events but do not have the time to make their own preparations.
'Comas Historic Racing' will take care of the of all administrative aspects
including enrollment fees, license forms, car transportation, clothing,
race car preparation, race car maintenance during historic events, hotel
and restaurant reservations, transportation to hotel, different sets of
tyres (for winter etc), and will return the car after the event. All the
customer has to do is to show up at the start and fill their car's fuel
tank at the gas station from time to time, as they would normally do when
driving.
'Comas
Historic Racing' will only enter a few events in 2002 before signing up
for a full program of 8 to 10 events in 2003. These include Monte Carlo,
Morocco Classic, Coupes des Alpes, Tour Auto, Spain Tour and Corsica Tour.
Our next event for this year will be the "Rallye des Princesses" for ladies only between June 2-7.
